Singing in a choir is a great experience for any child. It is not only enjoyable and fun but is highly beneficial for your child developmentally. Being in a choir demands that each member is able to think about more than one thing simultaneously – pitch, rhythm, beat, tempo, expression, text, the conductor’s directions, the harmonies between different parts, etc. Developing this kind of higher order thinking has obvious benefits for cross-brain development. Other advantages your child will enjoy through participating in choir include:
- Practising teamwork and cooperation skills
- Enjoying a non-competitive social activity with their peers
- Learning to sing beautifully
- Enjoying a productive outlet for self-expression
- Developing confidence and self-esteem
- Developing fine and gross motor skills
