At Newmarket State School, we value active, healthy lifestyles and provide students with a wide range of opportunities to develop their physical skills, teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship.
All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in an hour of Health and Physical Education classes each week, delivered by specialist teachers. Through engaging and inclusive lessons, students build fundamental movement skills, develop an understanding of health and wellbeing, and learn the importance of participation, resilience and respectful competition.
In addition to the regular HPE classes, students in Years 2 to 6 attend swimming lessons at Newmarket Pool, where they develop water confidence and vital swimming and water safety skills.
Preps to Year 6 students are involved in a variety of whole-school sporting events throughout the year, including our annual Cross Country Carnival (Term 1) and Athletics Carnival (Term 2). Students in Years 4 to 6 also participate in the annual Swimming Carnival held in Term 4.
Students belong to one of our three sporting houses:
In the lead up to the Cross Country, students are also encouraged to join our morning Kilometre Club which is a lovely way to start the day and students can earn certificates for the number of kilometres run.
Year 5 and 6 students also have the opportunity to participate in three Interschool Gala Days each semester, where they compete against other schools in a variety of sports. These events encourage teamwork, skill development and positive sporting experiences.
Our school community proudly supports student participation and achievement in sport. Students have opportunities to represent the school at district, regional, state and national levels across a range of sporting disciplines.
Through sport and physical activity, students are encouraged to demonstrate teamwork, perseverance, leadership and school spirit while striving to achieve their personal best.
