Attendance and absence
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please inform the school by using the QParents app or by phoning the 24 hour student absence line on 07 3552 7266.
Education Queensland requires schools to record and explain all student absences to ensure that no harm comes to our student on their journey to school. If your child is absent without explanation you will be sent a text message requesting a reason for their absence. For this reason it is essential that you notify the school office of any changes to your contact details.
Late arrivals and early departures
Students arriving at school after 8.50am when the roll is marked must collect a late slip from the office before going to class. Students leaving before school ends must be collected by a guardian from the school office.
Absences of more than 10 days
An exemption from compulsory schooling is required when a student will be absent for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
To apply for an exemption please complete an
application form and return it to the school. Further information regarding the exemption from compulsory schooling process is available in the
information sheet.
Every day counts
Being at school every day counts. If your child is absent one day per week, this quickly adds up to two months of missed school in a year.
Every day counts is an initiative aiming to improve attendance at school. The initiative promotes four key messages:
- all children should be enrolled at school and attend on every school day
- schools should monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance
- truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact on their future
- attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the community.
