Assessment at Newmarket State School is purposeful, systematic and ongoing. Teachers collect a variety of evidence to ensure a balanced judgement of student learning. Formal report cards are issued twice a year, at the end of Semester One and Semester Two. Opportunities to have Parent Teacher Interviews to discuss progress will also be offered to families.
National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May.
In 2019, Newmarket State School successfully transitioned to the NAPLAN Online platform. Students in Year 3 complete the Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy assessments online and students in Year 5 complete the Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language and Numeracy assessments online. Our students fed back that they thoroughly enjoyed working in the online space for their testing. Teachers in all year levels work with students to ensure they have the necessary IT skills to manage the online testing environment. More NAPLAN information is available by visiting the NAPLAN Website.
