RACQ Streets Ahead Program

Students participated enthusiastically in the program.
On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March, Caitlin and Dee from the RACQ Streets Ahead Program visited NSS to deliver a range of age appropriate road safety programs which focused on passenger, pedestrian and bicycle safety. Caitlin and Dee enthused and educated students using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, interactive activities and meaningful discussions.
The realistic road mat gave students the ability to learn correct road safety behaviours and practice crossing the road safely. For older groups, Caitlin and Dee demonstrated the importance of responsible behaviours and safety equipment, like helmets and seatbelts.
NSS Students really enjoyed the program. Here are some of their reflections:
·         ‘When you get in the car you should, slip, clip and clap so you parents know you are buckled up.” Laila, Prep C
·         ‘Don’t distract the driver.’ Mahdiya, 2 J
·          ‘You should regularly check that your bike lights, brakes and bell are working and in good condition.’ Ada, 4/5 D
·         ‘When your helmet is fitted correctly, it sits two finger widths above your eyebrow and you can fit two fingers under the strap.’ Henry, 5B
Our participation in the RACQ Streets Ahead Program was possible due to sponsorship by Brisbane City Council for the Active School Travel Program.
More information about the RACQ Streets Ahead Program including resources for parents is available from their website.
